Dearest Maddie,
Lots has happened since I last wrote to you, sweetie!
Look at how big you and Josie are now! You are 3 1/2 years old and Josie just turned 6 years old! Can you believe you and Josie are so old? I sure don't know how that happened! Look at these pictures, Maddie. You and Josie love each other so much! You love everyone so much! Do you see that beautiful dress you're wearing as you look up at the beautiful flower? Your Mommy made that dress for you, Mommy is very creative and talented!
Maddie, you are amazing, smart, beautiful, fun, and full of love! You dazzle me with your charming smile and sweet innocence. You're in 3 year-old preschool this year. You are kind, loving, and a little bit sassy. You're gutsy and know no fear! Who would be surprised? Through that tough exterior, you are sensitive and possess a deep spirituality and warmth.
You love playing with your big sister, Josie, your cousins, Jamie (he's in college these days), Samuel also known as Sam, Anthony, now known as Tony, and Stephen.
This past year, Grandpa and I moved to a new house. You really like our house, especially the pond and the fish that used to live in the pond. Yes, I said used to live there, a majestic bird with a long neck, called a heron, had a tasty meal of Koi! We were sad that the Koi got gobbled up. We'll probably get more fish this Spring, if we do, we'll put a net over the pond to protect the Koi. Speaking of the pond, you and your cousins dipped your toes in our pond, well, maybe a little more than your toes. Did I mention it was freezing cold out when you took your dip? Your poor little tootsies were frozen...brrrr!
You and your cousin love to play together, this Christmas, you and Josie became part of my little "Army". You loved marching, standing at "Attention", and so much more. Your cousins, James and Claire, came from New York to Grandpa's and my house the week after Christmas to shower Aunt Lauren and Uncle Joe in love and presents as they prepared for their new baby. Guess what? Your cousins joined our "Army"! All of you had a ball running around, learning how to be good soldiers, and racing up and down the ramp of the deck.
God was very good to us, He always is! We were lucky that it didn't snow during the party! We had lots of snow since Christmas...I mean LOTS of snow! One of our snowstorms left 30" of snow in our yard, that's almost 3 feet of snow! The snow was almost as tall as you, that's a lot of snow. Snow can be a fun and you, Josie, Sam, Tony, and Stephen had lots of fun sledding down the hill on the side of our house, we call our hill "Ski Kamaleer"!
A few days after a big snowstorm, God blessed with a treasure! On February 15, 2014...your baby cousin, John Francis Smith (Jack) was born! Uncle Joey and Aunt Lauren are so excited Jack is their baby! He is very cute, cuddly, and strong. You love holding and kissing him, we all love Jack! Guess what? A few weeks after Jack was born, Aunt Colleen came home from Denver to visit! She had fun playing with you and Josie, Jamie, Sam, Tony, Stephen, and baby Jack! We're so happy to see her.
Maddie, a few years ago, I suggested that you ask Uncle Joey for a pony. Do you remember reading about that? If you want that pony, you better hurry up, baby Jack might ask his Daddy for that pony.
Guess what else happened in February? Josie turned 6 soon after baby Jack was born. You had a ball at Josie's first sleepover birthday party! That's not all, guess what else happened? You, Josie, Mommy, and Daddy got a new dog, "Izzy". Izzy is a nickname for Isabella. Abby's been a good "big doggie sister" for Izzy, she taught Izzy to bark at people walking by the house. How much fun was that?
You can tell it's been a busy year so far, there's another important event coming up in a few days. Your family does many good things for each other and other people all year. In just a few days, your Daddy will shave his head for the third year in a row! Shaving his head is your Daddy's way to honor you, Maddie, and to raise money to find a cure for kids with cancer. Your Daddy and Mommy know how hard it was for you three years ago when you put up the fight of your life. You, Daddy, Mommy, and Josie are my heroes; I'm blessed by you and proud of you...all of you!
Maddie, you are absolutely lovely and a constant reminder of the miraculous power of prayer. I am so in love with you...our whole family is! Who can help but love you? It's impossible not to fall in love with you, after all, you reflect God's love and grace!
I love you, Princess Maddie! xo
